Memphis sanitation workers, represented by the labor union Local 1733, stated on Tuesday that it had negotiated a deal with the mayor’s office to provide its employees livable wages.
“This agreement shows what city workers can accomplish when we stay united, speak up, and don’t give up,” said Adrian Rodgers, president of Local 1733.
According to a press announcement, each employee who had been earning less than $22 an hour will now make a minimum of $22 an hour, as well as a wage increase of up to 5%.
According to officials, the agreement will take effect on October 1st if the Memphis City Council approves it.
The union’s scheduled rally at City Hall on Tuesday was later canceled because of the negotiation.
