Permits for a significant expansion of the FedEx World Hub at the airport in Memphis have been submitted by FedEx.
According to proposals, the “Hercules” project will construct a new five-story, 1.6 million-square-foot automated small package sorting facility at the Memphis airport. It will be connected by a bridge to FedEx’s recently finished Secondary 25 sorting facility.
FedEx’s strategic plan to modernize and increase its capacity for small-package sorting operations includes the new e-commerce facility.
In a letter of intent submitted in January, the company stated that it will incorporate a “state-of-the-art automated sort system.”
