After more than 40 years of serving South Memphis at his legendary restaurant, Interstate Bar-B-Q founder Jim Neely has officially decided to retire at the age of 88.
For Neely, this was not an easy decision to make, but ever since his hip surgery and the passing of his wife Barbara in 2024, things have not been the same for him.
However, Neely continues to remain optimistic, and just because he no longer owns Interstate Bar-B-Q, he continues to go to the restaurant every day to train the next generation, to ensure their products are a proper reflection of the legacy he has upheld for four-plus decades.
Interstate Bar-B-Q was sold by Neely to fellow barbeque owner Si Ed (a.k.a., “Chico”), who also owns Scooters BBQ.
