A Tennessee woman was sentenced on Tuesday after it was found that she had fraudulently claimed to be a combat veteran of the Marines in order to collect money.
Amanda Bass was found guilty of wire fraud and “stolen valor” and given a 16-month prison term followed by three years of supervised release.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office claims that Bass made up the story that she was a combat veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who had seen several deployments and survived an ambush that seriously injured her.
Drug testing and treatment, mental health therapy and counseling, and a ban on opening new credit accounts without prior authorization are among the additional requirements for Bass’ supervised release.
