Yesterday, 200 runners began a noble, three-day trek from St. Jude in Memphis to Peoria, Illinois, all in hopes of raising $100 million for cancer research.
“Knowing that every stretch of road that we hit between Memphis all the way up to Peoria there are people coming out to greet us,” said St. Jude Physician Beth Stewart. “We’re running at all hours of the day, and there’s people coming down their little road, and people handing us a check at 3 in the morning…But we know that every single step that we take is for the kids that are here, and what they do is even harder.”
Tomorrow, the runners coming from Memphis will meet up with participants from 34 other runs across Illinois and Missouri, all leading up to the 49th Annual St. Jude Telethon.
