For the second time in seven months, Shelby County is borrowing $125 million to cover payroll expenses.
The estimated cost to Shelby County taxpayers of this $125 million loan is between $2 million and $3 million.
This occurs just months after a motion to borrow $43 million from the debt service fund for the same expense was approved by the commission in November 2025.
Despite the approval however, the state comptroller’s office will have the final say on if it will go through or not.
