Southaven is getting serious about neighborhood aesthetics.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen just officially added damaged window blinds, shutters, and shades to the city’s property blight list.
Mayor Darren Musselwhite previously teased the change, pointing out that messy windows drag down property values and ruin a neighborhood’s uniform look.
Don’t worry—the city won’t lock you up overnight. If a code-enforcement officer spots a violation, you will first get a formal warning to fix it.
Ignoring the warning leads to court. Even if a judge rules against you, you still get a generous 90 days to replace the window coverings before facing the ultimate penalties: a $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail.
