Shelby County’s lawsuit to remove County Clerk Wanda Halbert has been dismissed.
This follows the county’s lawsuit to remove Halbert from office. The county announced its voluntary decision to end this effort.
Halbert has been the target of two separate expulsion cases in recent years. The most recent case was returned to the Shelby County Circuit Court on March 31 after the Tennessee Supreme Court rejected an appeal.
State and municipal political leaders have repeatedly attempted to remove Halbert from office since her election in 2018, citing lengthy backlogs and branch office closures.
On September 1, 2026, Halbert will formally step down from her position.
