Jackson Hopper appeared in court on Wednesday morning to accept the plea deal he had previously rejected. Hopper was accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Ellie Young at Shelby Farms and then leading law enforcement on a multi-county chase back in 2024.
Hopper was called to the stand by Judge Carlyn Addison, who asked him if he would accept the 40-year plea deal for second-degree murder. He agreed to it.
He declined going through with a trial and accepted once more when Judge Addison asked him again if he wanted to enter a guilty plea.
Back in February, after receiving 48 hours to plead guilty, Hopper declined and wished to go to trial at that time.
Mark McDaniel Jr., an attorney representing Young’s family, said Hopper will serve 100% of the 40-year sentence he accepted.
