Republicans in the Tennessee House are pursuing plans to increase the number of students enrolled in the state’s school voucher program.
The revised version allocates $300 million for private school vouchers and extends the current program to an additional 10,000 students in the state.
Lawmakers claim that the state was unable to meet the demand for vouchers, which is why the amendments were made.
Over 56,000 families have already applied, according to the state education department.
The Senate is now scheduled to vote on the bill on Wednesday.
