Yesterday, Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, announced the birth of their fourth child: Alec Neel Vance.
What makes this event unique is that Alec is the first child to be born to a sitting VP in more than 150 years, as the Vice President under Ulysses S Grant, Schuyler Colfax and his wife Ellen Wade had their son, Schuyler Colfax III, all the way back in 1870 while serving in office.
Funnily enough, the Vance family’s recent addition represents a sort of baby boom among top members of the Trump administration, as White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and his wife Katie Miller, as well as White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and her husband Nicholas Riccio, gave birth to their fourth and second child respectively while in office.
In addition to thanking the doctors and staff at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, along with the White House medical team, JD and Usha officially stated on social media:
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
