Last week, Whitehaven High School alumni Jordan Wilmore became the latest (and tallest) recruit to be sworn in as an officer for the Kemah Police Department in Texas.
As the tallest recruit in the country standing at 7-foot-3, Wilmore’s setbacks have been equally massive as he not only missed passing his first police exam by just one point but also found it challenging to fit into a standard patrol car due to his height.
However, after hearing his story, basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal stepped in to provide Wilmore with encouragement and even promised to to help him get a custom squad vehicle if he passed his second exam (which he did).
“I’ve always liked to help other people. That’s just who I am. I would do anything to help out whoever I can. There is nothing else I really wanted to do,” Wilmore said regarding his dream of serving as a police officer that has since come to fruition.
“He truly wants to make a difference,” stated Kemah Police Chief Raymond Garivey. “I’m proud that he chose the thin blue line,”
