Poplar Avenue in East Memphis is one of the most traveled streets every day. With the average number of cars on Poplar Avenue between White Station Road and Yates close to 40,000 every day, there’s no shortage of potential fast food customers hungry for something new. The competition to feed consumers appetite along that stretch of Poplar is becoming fierce. With a new taco shop scheduled to open at the coner of White Station and Poplar and West Tennessee’s first In and Out Burger expected to take up residence at Poplar and Estate in the coming years, this stretch of the avenue in East Memphis will be thee spot for fast food.
A building permit has been pulled for the former Wendy’s location at 5541 Poplar at the corner of Yates and Poplar. A Sonic Drive In operator and franchisee, SP Ventures has pulled the permit and is expected to build the cities next Sonic on the empty lot. SP Ventures operates 18 Sonics across five states including eight in West Tennessee. The Fleming Company of Collierville will be doing the construction according to the permitting. Cost of the project is set at $1.32 million.
