On this day in 1958, Elvis Presley and his family mourned the loss of his mother Gladys, who passed away at the age of 46.
Presley was on emergency leave during his military career in order to visit his mother, who was recently diagnosed with hepatitis.
Her condition worsened rapidly, and she tragically passed away on this day from heart failure.
Gladys and her husband Vernon are buried alongside their son Elvis in his Meditation Garden in Graceland, a site many are expected to visit for tomorrow’s Candlelight Vigil during Elvis Week.
