On Thursday, a judge rejected a request to have an indictment against former Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk Tami Sawyer dismissed.
Sawyer turned herself in at the federal courts in Memphis after being charged with wire fraud and money laundering.
From August 29, 2024, to June 22, 2025, Sawyer allegedly embezzledoover $44,000 in public funds for her personal use, according to the prosecution.
Sawyer reportedly paid for personal expenses with a county credit card, travel advances, and procurement cards given to other county employes.
She entered a not guilty plea to every allegation and on January 11, she will go on trial.
