House Minority Leader Karen Camper received a letter from House Speaker Cameron Sexton on Tuesday informing her that members of the Democratic Caucus would be removed from all standing committees and subcommittees for chaotically protesting the special session that lawmakers used to redraw congressional maps.
All 24 House Democrats, including Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson, are among the barred.
In his letter, Sexton argued that the Democrats in the House blocked aisles, used prohibited noisemakers on the House floor, distributed earplugs to members, disrespected members attempting to speak on legislation, and showed “flagrant disregard” for the House’s permanent rules of order.
The penalty is in effect until the start of the 2027 session, when committees will be reorganized following the election in November.
