Following the approval of the state’s new congressional redistricting maps, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of three Memphis voters on Monday.
This comes after Congressman Steve Cohen of the Ninth Congressional District declared last week that he would file a lawsuit over the redistricting.
The ACLU said that the strategy used to create and implement the maps was unprecedented and questionable.
“A white-controlled supermajority of the Tennessee General Assembly enacted the new map targeting Black Memphians over mere days in a special legislative session that had been called after the candidate-qualifying deadline had already run,” said ACLU.
This also comes after Ninth Congressional District Congressman Steve Cohen declared last week that he will sue over the redistricting.
