Last night, a resolution was reached by the Shelby County Commission to put stipulations on how much taxpayer money could be spent on the fight to stop a state takeover of Memphis-Shelby County Schools.
Shelby County Commissioner Britney Thornton stated that, “Upon what was passed today, you get to that 200,000 mark, you will need to come back to the commission to ask for additional dollars.”
Thornton is hoping this resolution will help the county learn from its previous mistakes by keeping taxpayers more informed.
Right now, however, it is unclear when the County Commission will reach the $200,000 threshold or how the local government will contribute should further funds be required.
