Early and incomplete election results indicate that Mickell Lowery will be the new mayor of Shelby County.
Democratic candidate Lowery received more votes than Republican John DeBerry according to results available Thursday night.
The newly redrawn U.S. House District race will pit Republican Brent Taylor against Democrat Justin J. Pearson.
Memphis resident Pearson now represents District 86 in the Tennessee House. In 2023, he was initially chosen to succeed the late Representative Barbara Cooper.
This marked the end of Steve Cohen’s tenure with the seat.
The Associated Press reported that Republican Marsha Blackburn and Democrat Jerri Green of Memphis will compete for governor of Tennessee in the general election in November.
Green is the Chief Public Defender for Shelby County and a first-term Memphis City Councilwoman from District 2.
Blackburn has served as a state senator since 2019. She also served in the Tennessee House District 7 from 2003 to 2019.
Election Day is November 3.
