Mississippians will be able to enjoy the yearly sales tax holiday or tax-free weekend beginning this week.
The sales tax holiday, according to Mississippi Department of Revenue officials, is a brief time when sales taxes are not collected or paid on purchases of particular goods and/or services.
It is scheduled to start on Friday, July 10, 2026, and run through Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Below is a list of a few things you should remember ahead of Mississippi’s tax-free weekend:
- The sales tax holiday will apply to all purchases of clothing, footwear, and school supplies with sales prices of less than $100 per article during the sales tax holiday.
- Rentals of clothing, footwear, and school supplies do not qualify for the sales tax holiday and are subject to 7% sales tax.
- The total price of items advertised as “buy one, get one free” or “at a reduced price” cannot be averaged to qualify both items for the holiday.
- Layaway sales of eligible items do not qualify for the holiday.
- Retailers may offer store discounts and store coupons to reduce the price of an eligible item to less than $100 to qualify for the holiday.
- When eligible items are normally sold with non-eligible items as a set or a single unit, the full price is subject to sales tax if the value of the non-eligible (taxable) item exceeds the eligible items.
