Tami Sawyer’s federal wire fraud and money laundering case will go to trial and the date has been revealed.
The General Sessions Court Clerk will face trial on Jan. 11. That date is subject to change.
On Tuesday, Sawyer and her lawyer, John Keith Perry, appeared in federal court in Memphis for a hearing.
Earlier this month, Sawyer was charged with money laundering and wire fraud. She is charged with two charges of wire fraud conspiracy, two counts of money laundering, one offense of federal funds theft, and one count of interstate racketeering.
Prosecutors allege that Sawyer embezzled $44,607.35 in public funds for her own use
Her employment as a court clerk has been suspended for sixty days.
