The US Marshals Service reported on May 28th, that the total number of gang member arrests on the streets of Memphis now exceeds 1000. There are more than 50 known gangs and subsets of nationally known gangs operating on the streets of Memphis. These gangs represent illgal drug sales, human trafficking, firearms violations, racketeering, turf wars and violent crimes against the citizens that live the communities they operate in.
These gang arrrests make up about 10% of the total arrests made thus far since the task force began in September. The Memphis Safe Task Force has thus far arrested 9,586 violent fugitives, including 82 for homicide, 1,058 for narcotics, 908 for weapons offenses, 105 for sex offenses and 1,021 known gang members. The task force has also seized more than 1,622 illegal firearms. Since the operation began, the MSTF has located 150 missing children.
