Michael Wissman, the mayor of Arlington, will not face charges for shoplifting, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday.
“The decision was made after the individual completed counseling sessions and community service. This case was handled consistently with other cases involving first-time offenders charged with this offense,” the office said in a statement
Wissman was charged with shoplifting at the Dillard’s in Wolfchase Galleria back in March. When the police arrived, they took a report.
The scenario was described by Wissman as an unfortunate mistake.
Wissman is serving his fourth term as mayor in Arlington after being elected back in 2011.
