One Shelby County commissioner stated that the major water leak revealed a much bigger problem, even if the flooding at 201 Poplar was fixed.
Shelby County Commissioner Mick Wright is requesting a thorough engineering evaluation following the Criminal Justice Center’s two-day closure due to a burst water pipe, which delayed court proceedings and disrupted operations.
Wright wrote to Lee Harris, the mayor of Shelby County, asking the administration to submit a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to perform a thorough structural, mechanical, engineering, and electrical evaluation of the Criminal Justice Center.
On Wednesday morning, the courtrooms and offices at 201 Poplar reopened and went back to their regular activities.
