In Shelby County’s federal lawsuit regarding the state’s takeover of local schools, a temporary restraining order has been granted.
The injunction maintains the status quo, allowing the Memphis-Shelby County School Board to continue paying contracts, making emergency purchases, and retaining the current leadership for the time being.
As the lawsuit proceeds, a federal court will have to determine whether such protections will continue.
The law that established the oversight board took effect today, and the board for Memphis-Shelby County Schools will convene for the first time on Wednesday.
