The city of Memphis prohibited a nonprofit managed by a new county commissioner from accepting grants after an audit revealed that over $10,000 in grant funds may have been mismanaged.
According to a private internal document that WREG was able to get, the problem concerns a nonprofit known as Serving In Christ Outreach.
Lashanta Rudd, who recently emerged victorious in the Democratic primary for the Shelby County Commission’s District 10 seat, established the organization.
A memo sent by an auditor read, “We found unallowable and unsupported expenses totaling $10,512.20 that did not align with the core objectives denoted in the budget request for SICOs funding agreement.”
