After being attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull, a 12-year-old Covington girl was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
She was viciously attacked on Saturday after the dog escaped from a house on Shelton Street.
When the dog ran out, the child, who knew the residents, was standing by their door. Police said as she tried to run towards her home, the dog pursued her.
The dog was able to be pulled off the child by a bystander but her arm, chest, and face sustained severe damage. On Monday, she was released from the hospital.
Takelia Holland, the dog’s owner, was booked at the Tipton County Jail on charges of failing to vaccinate the animal and allowing animals to run at large.
Holland was released from jail on a $2,500 bond.
