Memphis Police Officer Oscar Tores-Molina was on duty the night of February 26th, 2026. At 8:09 pm, he engaged in a “routine” traffic stop on Perkins Rd. & Aloha Ave. Upon opening the driver side door to verify the cars VIN number, Officer Tores-Molina asked the driver if he had anything in the car that he should be worried about. “No, not at all”, responded the driver. He then asked the driver if he could search the car was told yes. The driver stepped out of the car and as officer Torres-Molina asked him, “has the VIN number on the door always been scratched off like that”. The driver then turned around and shot Oscar Tores-Molina. He was taken to Regional One Medical Center in another patrol car and is recovering.
After being on the run, Danell Maxwell was apprehended thanks to the persistant, hard work of MPD and a multi-agency manhunt in coordination with the U.S. Marshalls.
