On Tuesday, the last member of Memphis-Shelby County Schools’ recently established oversight board was revealed.
State Representative Cameron Sexton confirmed in a letter that Karen Vogelsang has been selected as the final member of the oversight board.
Vogelsang was ARISE2Read’s executive director for six years.
This follows the appointment of five members by Governor Bill Lee, two by the lieutenant governor, and two by the speaker of the house.
The newly formed oversight board will have exclusive control over contracts and budgeting. Legally, it can’t go into effect until July 1 and their terms expire in 2030.
