On this day in 2002, the Bluff City was host to an historic boxing match between Mike Tyson and defending Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis at the Pyramid Arena.
While Tyson found success in the first round, his luck would gradually run out until finally being knocked out in the final moments of the eighth round, thus allowing Lewis to maintain his Heavyweight Champion title.
Tyson would graciously admit defeat, and The Ring boxing magazine would declare Lewis’ KO of Tyson “Knockout of the Year,” with the fight making history as one of the most notable and viewed bouts ever.
