After being convicted of stealing almost $400,000 from the Department of Education, two former Mississippi school superintendents received jail sentences.
Mario Willis, of Southaven, previously entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to embezzle funds from federal programs. He is serving a 20-month sentence in federal prison.
Also 57-year-old Earl Joe Nelson of Biloxi, Mississippi, was found guilty of conspiring to embezzle federal program funds and will serve a 14-month federal prison sentence.
According to court records, Nelson was the superintendent of the Clarksdale Municipal School District before to taking over as the superintendent of the Leake County School District, while Willis was the superintendent of the Hollandale School District.
