A congressional redistricting plan that is currently being voted on in Nashville is now the subject of a lawsuit that Congressman Steve Cohen announced he will file in state court.
Cohen announced the suit in a news conference Thursday morning in downtown Memphis.
The only elected Democrat from Tennessee in Washington is Cohen, a Democrat who represents the Ninth District in Congress.
Memphis and Shelby County would be split into three districts under the new district proposition put forth by state Republicans, each of which would be connected to more conservative, rural voters outside of the city and as far away as the suburbs of Nashville.
