Memphis recently received national recognition when an article by Travel + Leisure ranked the Bluff City as the best road trip destination in the U.S.
In addition to factoring walkability, safety, green space, climate, and family-friendly attractions into its ranking system, a lack of traffic congestion elevated Memphis to the #1 position, as the article believed spending less time sitting in traffic can mean less stress and more time enjoying a destination.
“Taking the road less traveled and heading to a less popular vacation destination may be a good way to maximize happiness,” travel expert Matt Kowalewski told Travel + Leisure.
Among Memphis’ strong points highlighted in the Travel + Leisure article were the city’s food and music scenes, in addition to attractions like Graceland and the National Civil Rights Museum.
