A city of Memphis spokesperson stated that an investigation is underway against Memphis City Council members and a staff member.
The investigation is focused on Council Chairwoman Jana Swearingen-Washington, Councilman JB Smiley Jr., and Administrator Ashleigh Hayes, according to the Daily Memphian.
However Councilman Smiley Jr. stated that the investigation is not about him, nor is it about Administrator Hayes.
According to former councilman Frank Colvett, a criminal investigation may follow depending on the investigation’s findings.
