As World Cup fever continues to grip the nation, fans of the sport will likely remember that on this day 40 years ago in 1986 Argentine soccer star Diego Maradona made his legendary “Hand of God” goal against England.
Not only would this play give Argentina a 1-0 lead, but Diego would go on to score again minutes later to seal a 2-1 victory against Britain.
And days after this victory, Argentina would go on to beat West Germany 3-2 to officially earn the World Cup trophy that year.
