After being charged with shooting a Memphis police officer in the face in February and fleeing for 70 days, Danell Maxwell went before a court on Monday.
The 40-year-old appeared in front of the judge while the prosecution continues to pursue a life sentence without parole.
After a pat-down, Maxwell and Officer Oscar Torres-Molina walked to the back of the patrol cruiser before Maxwell pulled the trigger on the officer when he was asked about a scratched out VIN number.
The officer was rushed to the hospital and has since recovered. Maxwell is expected to appear before a judge again on July 6.
