The Tennessee Court of Appeals has ruled that Governor Bill Lee’s National deployment in Memphis was lawful.
Lee Harris, the mayor of Shelby County, filed a lawsuit against the governor, arguing that the Guard’s deployment was illegal. At first, a judge took the mayor’s side.
However, a three-judge panel unanimously reversed that decision in a verdict issued on Tuesday, permitting the Guard to remain.
The ruling said, “Mayor Harris offered no explanation or support for how diversion of his attention from other important matters to focus upon the presence of the Tennessee National Guard constitutes a cognizable injury in fact.”
It continued by saying, “Accordingly, Mayor Harris does not have standing.”
