The Mississippi shooting death of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley has been ruled as “justified” by the Miss. Attorney General’s Office; the officer responsible for the shots was cleared as well.
For several months, since the fatal shooting at a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, protests were held drawing the attention of the national media.
It even led to the termination of the city’s police chief, Harold Vanderford, who submitted his resignation but was declined by the board of aldermen.
Wiley was killed while sitting on his mother’s lap on June 14, when law enforcement officers were responding to a shoplifting call at Walmart.
As the suspects were fleeing from the store, one of them including Wiley and his mother, the car nearly ran over an officer which led to that officer firing his weapon at the vehicle, fatally striking Wiley.
