After the chaos inside the Memphis City Council chambers two weeks ago, the vote on a one-year moratorium for new data centers is set to continue on Tuesday.
That vote was delayed after a 7-5 vote when protests got out of hand which led to violence and the eventual ban on Justin J. Pearson to attend the next two meetings.
A 90-day executive order to research guardrails for data centers to be recommended to the council was issued by Mayor Paul Young.
All of this stems a year after the establishment of SpaceXAI’s data centers which caused the immediate pushback by residents of Boxtown and Whitehaven, and other Democrat politicians that are concerned about how it all effects the environment.
Tuesday’s council meeting will be for the future of the data centers and whether they will be put on pause or not.
