Tennessee’s first execution of a woman in more than 2 centuries, Christa Pike, is set to be put to death on Wednesday.
50-year-old Pike refused her last meal as she holds on hope that Gov. Bill Lee will grant clemency, though he has already confirmed he will not intervene.
This comes 31 years after the brutal murder carried out by Pike of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.
Investigations concluded Pike lured Slemmer into the woods before torturing and killing her. She was driven by jealousy and was convinced Slemmer was trying to steal her boyfriend.
Her execution is set for 10 a.m. on September 30 at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.
