One week after Tyrin Johnson was shot and killed by two Tennessee National Guard troops, friends, family, and community activists gathered in Downtown Memphis on Sunday night to pay tribute to him.
Supporters honored Johnson and demanded justice during the candlelight vigil, which took place close to Fourth Street and Union Avenue.
Authorities reported that 20-year-old Johnson fired gunshots in the downtown area before being confronted and then shot by Memphis Safe Streets Task Force officers.
According to the family, they are still calling for transparency and the release of the shooting’s surveillance footage.
