The City of Memphis and the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office has declared two stores as public nuisances for ongoing criminal activity that has been happening for several years.
Those stores are Community Grocery in South Memphis, and Save a Stop #2 in the Bethel Grove area.
Under Tennessee’s nuisance-abatement law, having them declared as public nuisances has resulted in closure orders.
Just at Community Grocery alone, 229 police calls were made between October 2024 and October 2026, resulting in 71 reports and 24 arrests varying from homicide, armed robbery, and other related crimes.
Save a Stop #2 had multiple similar incidents like violent crime, narcotics charges, and illegal gambling.
“The Memphis Police Department will continue working with our partners to address problem properties, hold those responsible accountable, and protect Memphis neighborhoods,” said MPD.
