In a modern-day version of The Odyssey, one British adventurer has recently completed a 28-year journey back to his mother’s home in Hull, England.
In November 1998, former Paratrooper and then 29 year-old Karl Bushby embarked on his 31,000 mile journey from the tip of South America all the way back to Europe, all done do with two rules in mind: to not return to England until the end of his journey and to use only his own two feet as transportation.
During his journey (pictured below), in order to not break his self-imposed rules, Bushby had to swim across the Bering Strait, Caspian Sea, and English Channel to cross various continents.
In order to sustain himself on his trek, Bushby often relied on handouts from generous strangers or was even forced to eat food discarded on roadsides on rare occasions.
Now that his own odyssey is over, however, Bushby plans on chronicling his adventures in a book and is working on a documentary with legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog.
