It’s been one month since the botched Tennessee execution attempt of Christa Pike, and since then, she’s been awake and open about the situation.
“There hasn’t been a moment since that night when I haven’t been in pain,” Pike said in her first public statement, “My body hurts. My arms hurt. My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still struggle to speak. And the pain isn’t just physical. There is pain in my mind and in my soul.”
Pike’s attorneys noted that it took about ten needles by the execution team to try and find the vein. According to one of her attorneys, Pike has been suffering “punishment greater than anyone in history of the American death penalty.”
As for what comes next, Governor Bill Lee has paused the final execution that was set for later this year as investigations into the botched execution continue.
