The state-appointed oversight board of nine tasked with handling the state takeover of Memphis-Shelby County Schools are set to return to action once their chair says that they are “ready, willing, and able” to do so, according to an order issued by U.S. District Court Judge Waverly D. Crenshaw Jr.
However, it is unclear at this time when state oversight chair Billy Orgel will deem that he and his board are ready to resume the roles they briefly held for two weeks this Summer.
What is clear, though, is that Judge Crenshaw dismissed Tennessee Governor Bill Lee from the MSCS state takeover case, alongside Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally, Tennessee Education Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds, and Speaker Cameron Sexton, who originally appointed the members of the takeover board.
Further rulings in this case are pending at this time.
