Christa Pike has not yet died from her execution attempt as of Thursday morning, despite two lethal doses of the drug.
Just before 9 a.m. on Thursday, Pike was still heard sleeping, which is when she was taken away by an ambulance for evaluation.
An outside review has been ordered by Gov. Bill Lee, who confirmed days ago he would not intervene to stop the execution. Pike’s condition is currently unknown, as this is now the second failed execution in Tennessee.
Tony Carruthers’ execution was set for May 21, but it was failed after there was difficulty finding his IV line.
This comes after Pike’s execution was put on pause, as a last-minute stay of execution was issued from the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday.
