The death of two University of Mississippi students have been linked to packaged Kratom, according to the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics team.
Two students were found dead in their own room but the cause of death has not yet been confirmed. The narcotics team is still in the middle of their investigation, which is when they found Kratom that was sold from a retail store.
As of now, Kratom has not been linked to their cause of death.
“Kratom acts as an opioid. Similar to heroin. We know that Narcan can take effect. If you’re going to take these things, be smart and have resources available in case something happens,” said Lafayette County Sheriff Joey East.
The narcotics team is now advising students to avoid Kratom, despite it being readily available through vending machines on campus.
