$6.1M is the price tag to modernize and operate the clerk’s offices, according to the new Shelby County Clerk La Sonya Hall. She took over former clerk Wanda Halbert’s position just a few days ago and is looking to get the train back on the tracks.
In her report to the county commissioners on Wednesday, she explained that during her tour of the facilities, she found that the technology used to carry out the job was outdated and facing consistent issues.
Not only that, but she also found “34 crates of unprocessed automobile dealer packets” for a total of over 250 packets.
One of her examples was that the offices were running on a Windows program that dated back to 2009. “So we will be looking at upgrading all of our systems, purchasing new computers so that the process of delivering services to citizens is moving faster,” Hall said.
Hall clarified that her proposal of the $6.1M would not require tax increases for customers.
