Yesterday evening, newly appointed Shelby County Commissioner Will Richardson was arrested and jailed with a $40,000 bond, following his first County Commission meeting.
Charges against Richardson include two counts of falsifying state revenue and tax stretching back to 2020.
Richardson won his District 8 seat with 81% of the vote back in August, the seat that was previously occupied by now-Shelby County Mayor Mickell Lowery.
In addition to Richardson, two other County Commissioners have faced legal problems in 2026, as Edmond Ford, Jr. resigned following five tax evasion charges and Erika Sugarmon was charged with vandalism of opposing campaign signs.
