Yesterday, ground was broken on the site of the first home that will be build as part of the Orange Mound Community Land Trust, a project that’s seeking to make affordable housing a reality for residents in the South Memphis community.
This first “demonstration home” will feature three bedrooms and two bathrooms with high-quality amenities that will be sold to a qualifying family after its completed construction in the next 9 to 10 months.
“This is what we’ve been working towards,” said Memphis Mayor Paul Young. “When we set a goal of getting 10,000 housing units developed in our city by 2030, we knew it was ambitious, but we knew we had to start one unit at a time, one lot at a time, and we know there are a lot of opportunities in our neighborhoods and communities.”
